My plan, this extremely hot and humid Sunday in Lake Worth Beach, Fl, was to have somewhat of a mild and relaxed day. Things started off well around 8:30am with a cafe con Leche from a local Bodega and a “My Father”, El Centurion. Terrific, I thought, great start. Around 1:00pm I poured a glass of Monkey Shoulder over ice and dove into a Filthy Viking toro with the Habano wrapper. Things couldn’t be better, I thought. Just about 3:30pm I had lunch and ordered some spicy wings, I’d had one or two more libations and when I got home, the spice from lunch still tingling on my palate, and my common sense a little compromised, I decided to take on the M81. I had purchased a 5 pack recently and even although I’d read and watched reviews on this cigar and how powerful it was, I decided, to give it a shot. I should have listened. At this time I’d switched to my trusty Glendronnach 12, but I soon found out, smoking this cigar was less a search for flavor as it was a 3 round cage match. Almost immediately, I was hit with intense amounts of pepper and spice with a 7 out of 10 draw. I persevered. 2nd third didn’t let up, my taste buds were getting overloaded and it had become a full fledged knife fight to the finish. I lost. Had to toss it, couldn’t stick.it out. My big boy pants had become pantaloons and now my shame was complete. Besides the draw, the construction was good, nice wrapper and good ash. In conclusion; if you’re the kind of person who can stand Nagasaki levels of spice and pepper and doesn’t mind not being able to taste anything for a few hours, or talk like your mouth has been injected with novacain then this cigar is definitely for you.
