This cigar comes with a dark brown and black oily rough looking wrapper with a solid feel to it. The “Cut and a light” kicks off with some extreme tunneling issues and a seriously decreased smoke output. The flavors I’m getting is hay, wood, coco, earth, with a rough peppery retro hale. In the second third, I got the tunneling issue under control now but the filler looks to be closer to one side so there an uneven burn down. Some vanilla bean has come into play with some dark chocolate notes. There’s white ash that’s flaky a bit. The retro hale has smoothed out quiet a bit though. The final third is much smoother with some bitter coffee and better smoke output with a more even burn now. There still earth, wood,, leather, and a dark tobacco flavor has developed in the background, and maybe a very slight light cinnamon spice on the tongue. The retro hale is very smooth now with some cocoa undertones, and the pepper has faded. I’m also tasting a light sweet cedar note. I think that this cigar wasn’t the perfect representation of the series and I’d really like to buy another one to do a proper review of the project 40, as I believe the issues it’s had have effected the flavor profile. Over all, once I got it to smoke right it was very smooth and the wrapper is very nice looking. My smoke time was about one hour.
